Owning Your Role in the Healing Journey
Life is a series of challenges, setbacks, and moments of triumph. Yet, when trauma and hurt become part of our stories, it can be easy to slip into a cycle of self-victimization, blame, and shame. In truth, healing begins when we step outside this cycle, take responsibility for our role in events, and refuse to carry the weight of blame—on ourselves or others.
Acknowledgment Without Blame
One of the hardest lessons to learn is that life isn’t always fair. Hurt people hurt people, and trauma often stems from a web of experiences and actions. The urge to assign blame can be strong, but blame only perpetuates the cycle of negative energy, bad karma, and emotional stagnation. When we focus on blame—whether directed outward or inward—we disrupt the natural flow of healing.
Instead, it’s essential to acknowledge what has happened, including the part we’ve played in it, without attaching blame or shame. This doesn’t mean condoning harmful behavior or excusing ourselves from accountability; it means understanding the bigger picture and choosing to evolve beyond it.
The Role of Objectivity in Healing
Healing is an active process of stepping back, looking at the entire picture, and being objective about our experiences. When we see things as they are, rather than through the lens of pain or anger, we gain clarity and insight. This perspective allows us to recognize patterns, break cycles, and move toward to a space of growth and acceptance.
For me, this journey has been deeply personal. Today, as I wrestle with PMDD and navigate the emotional storms it brings, I am reminded of how important it is to ground myself. Trauma is not the end of the story. It is a side road—a detour—but it doesn’t define the destination.
Finding Moments of Release
We all need moments of release. Whether it’s driving to Taco Bell at midnight, meditating by the fireplace, or praying for peace, finding small ways to reset and reconnect with positive energy is vital. These acts may seem minor, but they are victories in their own right. They represent choices to step out of the darkness, even if only for a moment, and that’s something to celebrate.
Healing is not about erasing the pain or pretending it doesn’t exist. It’s about letting go of the tension and strain, allowing yourself to feel and release what needs to come out, and finding healthy outlets for expression. When we do this, we disrupt the negative cycle and make room for growth and renewal.
Scraping Through the Tunnel
This journey isn’t linear. Healing often feels like scraping through a tunnel, facing things we’ve avoided for years, and coming to terms with uncomfortable truths. It has taught me to take responsibility for my actions without internalizing shame, to acknowledge my mental health struggles without letting them define me, and to hold space for myself as I grow.
It’s okay to have breakdowns. It’s okay to feel anger, frustration, or pain. What matters is how we respond to those feelings. Creating safe, constructive ways to process emotions is key to healing. Even when the right choice feels unnatural or difficult, it’s worth pursuing because it breaks the cycle of harm and opens the door to peace.
The Power of This Moment
Healing is not about reaching an idealized version of yourself or achieving a perfect state of being. It’s about embracing the present moment, knowing that “only this moment exists, and in this moment, I am okay.”
By acknowledging your trauma without imparting blame, by holding yourself accountable without shame, and by finding positive outlets for growth and release, you can move toward true healing. The other side of pain exists—it’s waiting for you. The path may be difficult, but every step forward is a testament to your strength, resilience, and commitment to living as your fullest, truest self.
Let’s be a light in this world, a source of connection and hope in a time of disconnection and pain. Let’s heal, not just for ourselves, but for the ripple effect it creates—a legacy of love and understanding in a world that desperately needs it.
